Fishing licence in Czech Republic: what anglers need
In the Czech Republic you always need a fishing licence (rybářský lístek) and a water permit (povolenka) to fish in fishing districts. As a visitor you can get the 30-day licence for CZK 200 without an exam at the municipal office.

Where do you buy a fishing licence for Czech Republic?
The fishing licence is issued by the office of a municipality with extended powers (obec s rozšířenou působností); foreigners apply where they are staying. The ministry page mentions no online application. Water permits are sold by the angling unions and their local branches; ČRS points to an e-shop whose ordering system is, by its own account, still being prepared.
What about children, teens and seniors?
The ministry sets no minimum age for the licence; under 15s prove identity with a birth certificate, for example, and pay CZK 250 for the 10-year licence. ČRS membership in 2026 costs CZK 150 for children under 15, CZK 300 for ages 16 to 18 and CZK 700 for adults.
What applies to visitors from abroad?
Visitors can get the 30-day licence without an exam; you show your passport. For the 10-year or unlimited licence residents need a qualification certificate; foreigners can instead show a fishing licence from their home country. You always need a water permit as well.
Which catch and take-home rules apply?
Per day you may keep at most 7 kg of fish in total, even across several districts. Of these, at most 2 carp, grass carp, pike, zander, asp and wels catfish combined and at most 3 salmonids. The fish that takes you over 7 kg ends your fishing day. In trout districts, pike, chub, perch, wels, asp and zander do not count. The union's own rules can be stricter.

What else should you know?
Since 1 January 2024 licences are only issued for 30 days, 10 years or without time limit. Prussian carp, gobies, bullhead catfish and invasive species on the EU list do not count towards the daily limit.
Current 2026 water permit prices are not officially confirmed (CzechTourism examples from April 2025, ČRS price page lists no short-term permits). Whether non-members and visitors can buy ČRS short-term permits online is unclear. The rule on ponds outside fishing districts (no licence, only the pond owner's permission) from the 10 October research was not reconfirmed today. The decree was read only in the FAOLEX copy; e-Sbírka was not reachable.
