Surgeon's loop
A quick, strong end loop, for example for leaders, loop-to-loop connections or weights.
easy Line: Monofilament, Fluorocarbon, Braid
How to tie it
- Double the end of the line to make a loop of the size you want.
- Tie a simple overhand knot with the doubled line.
- Pass the loop through the same knot a second time.
- Wet the knot and pull the loop and both strands tight evenly. Trim the end.
Tip: Hold the loop open with a finger or a pen while tightening, so the size stays the same.
Common mistakes
- Only one pass instead of two: then it is a simple overhand knot, which is much weaker.
- The loop ends up bigger or smaller than planned when tightening, because you only pull on one side.
